Osteopathy is a non-invasive hands-on therapy suitable for all ages. Treatment aims to reduce pain and improve whole-body function, by optimising the body’s different systems. These include muscles, joints, the nervous and circulatory systems.
An osteopath will treat the symptomatic or painful areas, but also look beyond, to possible factors that have led to the problem. Addressing these will help prevent future occurrences and aid return to good health.
Osteopathic Training
Osteopaths are skilled Allied Health Professionals, regulated by the General Osteopathic Council. Our intensive 4-5 years of training includes anatomy, physiology, pathology, osteopathic technique, and over 1000 clinical hours.
An osteopath will always take a detailed clinical health history and conduct a thorough examination to ensure that osteopathic treatment is suitable. We are trained to spot when a referral to your GP or other specialist may be necessary for further evaluation, scans or tests.
Osteopathic Treatment
We use gentle hands-on techniques to relieve pain and tension and improve mobility. Our longer term aim is to help your body return to health and reach its best potential in the future. Treatment is individually-tailored, and may include:
- Soft tissue massage
- Muscle stretch and strengthening
- Joint articulation and mobilisation
- Joint manipulation
- Spinal manipulation or adjustment
- Techniques to encourage fluid flow and tissue repair
Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial osteopathy is a set of gentle techniques used to reduce stresses and tensions throughout the body and improve it’s overall function. It is particularly useful for treating conditions affecting your head or neck such as headaches, sinus congestion or jaw pain.
